‘People could smell my body burning': iPhone ‘exploded in man’s pocket’
An iPhone that allegedly exploded in a man’s pocket was so hot that people could ‘smell his body burning’, he has claimed.
Erik Johnson, 29, said he was at a party when he heard a pop and a fizzling and his leg started to burn.
And Mr Johnson said he suddenly realised his phone had exploded – but the heat was so intense that it melted shut his pocket, forcing him to take off his trousers to avoid serious injury.
‘I was literally jumping up and down trying to get the phone out of my pocket, but I think the phone melted my pockets shut so I couldn’t get into it and I had to rip my pants off and throw the pants to the side,’ he told ABC 7.
‘A couple of people actually said they could smell my body burning,’
The incident meant that the New Yorker was forced to spend 10 days in hospital with third degree burns.
This is not the first time iPhone users have claimed their devices have exploded on them.
