Thief who stole £2,500 electric bike calls owner for help recharging it

A thief stole a £2,500 electric bike – then unwittingly called the owner to find out how to recharge it.
He stole the rare Go Cycle bike from Ben Jaconelli, who had left it locked in Hackney, east London, for just 20 minutes. But as he runs the e-bike store FullyCharged.com, Mr Jaconelli soon received a phone call from a man asking for a charger.

The 30-year-old victim said: ‘I’m the
authorised dealer for Go Cycles in the area so the thief called me, unaware that it was my bike.

‘He asked for a charger for a Go Cycle and I knew straight away it had to be the thief. ‘We piled into an old Army truck and turned
up at his house. A minute later, he called me and asked why I was at his house. I replied: “You stole my bike”.’

The thief soon returned it. Police confirmed the matter has been investigated but no arrests have been made.
