Supersonic Boom aircraft will be the fastest passenger plane ever

Fasten your seat belts – we are about to get a plane that’s even faster than the Concord

Richard Branson (who else?) just unveiled his plans for ‘Boom’, a new supersonic speed plane that will travel up to 1,451mph.
This means it will be able to travel from London to New York in just three and a half glorious hours.
That’s pretty fast. If you recall, Concorde’s top speed was a comparatively rubbish 1,350mph.

To build Boom, Branson is partnering up with Blake Scholl, a 35-year-old pilot and former Amazon executive.
‘We are talking about the first supersonic jet people can afford to fly,’ Scholl told The Guardian.
Scholl’s superstar team – which includes former Nasa, Lockheed Martin and Boeing engineers – plan to build and test a prototype plane by the end of 2017, meaning commercial flights could get going within just a few years.‘This isn’t science fiction, we are actually doing this. You will be able to fly New York to London in three-and-a-half hours for $5,000 (£3,466) return, [which is roughly] the same cost as business class.’
And while £3,466 seems a little steep, it is a lot more affordable than the £20,000 a seat on the Concorde would have set you back, before it was discontinued 13 years ago.
‘This is supersonic air travel, no bullshit
